BaD Radio - Recap - 5/18/11

Wednesday 5/18/11

Location: Studio

The Mix: “Cash has a beer helmet on.” – Sean Bass

The Open: “In fact no Star Trek episode has the words ‘Beam me up Scottie’”. Sean Bass got a liner from Mike Brown, former coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers. It was a good moment. He was doing the ESPN3D broadcast at the AAC last night. Good news for Dan, Hayden Panettiere is back on the market.

12:40 – Mavs Talk: The Mavs took game 1 from the Thunder, 121-112. The game went back and forth until late in the 4th quarter. Dirk established his dominance, scoring 48 points. JJ Barea had a major impact on the 4th quarter, he was a difference maker. Dirk and Durant cancelled each other out, it was the Mavs bench that took them over the top.

1:00 – Mavs Talk: Dan wants to talk some Durant, after the first quarter it didn’t look too good for the Mavs. The Mavs didn’t show much rust, yet they were down 7. It was scary. Kevin Durant is so good and he doesn’t quite know how good he is yet. He is the future of the NBA. The parallels between young Durant and young Dirk are visible every time you see Durant play. Durant gets the ball at the 3 point to start his move, the same thing Dirk used to do. Just imagine how good Durant will be once he develops a low post game. The way Dirk scored his 48 points last night was demoralizing to the Thunder; he did not attempt a single 3 pointer. The big difference between Dirk and Durant is that Dirk knows how to harness his strengths and mask his weaknesses.

1:20 – Mavs Talk: The Thunder are extremely young. They’re a bunch of 21 and 22 year olds. Russell Westbrook looks exactly like Bodie from the Wire. Despite that fact, Westbrook had a horrible game. The obituary for this team if they lose this series will be that they were too young. There were some Lunch Pail comments about Nick Collison last night. The officials were very whistle happy last night, there was a double technical foul one minute into the game. There were so many free throws last night.

1:45 – Mavs Talk: Hannah Storm said last night that the Thunder were playing the “Magic”. Jeff Van Gundy said “coming” then paused for the dirty effect. Mark Jackson used the term “DYNAMITE!!”. Mark Jackson was out of control last night during his broadcasting. “Mama there goes that man again.”

2:00 – Tom Grieve: Tom joins the show once again. He is quick to praise the efforts of Colby Lewis over the past 4 games. He’s been spotting his fastball where he wants to and that triggers his other pitches. The Rangers are starting to get healthy once again with Hamilton and Cruz rehabbing in Frisco. Talking about home field advantage, there are rumors that some teams will make the dirt soft in front of home plate to help out their pitcher. Teams can do subtle things to the field to cater to their team strengths. Interleague starts this weekend with the Rangers playing the Phillies, they’ll face Cliff Lee, Roy Halladay and Roy Oswalt.

2:20 – Bob’s Church Bit: The sermon was about being a hypocrite and he referenced a pastor that was a Navy Seal. The Osama thing happened and the local news agency wanted to interview a former Navy Seal so the pastor went on the news. It’s turned out that he never was a Navy Seal and was never in Vietnam. Somehow the credibility of Aquaman as a superhero becomes the topic of conversation.

2:35 – Donovan’s Wife Twiggy: Twiggy joins the show from Madrid, Spain. She went to a bull fight last night. It was the most “adrenaline, most inhumane” thing. She says that there are so many levels to it. You can’t leave until the bull is dead. There is a horse with a blindfold on and lots of padding on. They guy on the horse is supposed to poke the bull with a spear. She continues to explain what goes on and she is talking really fast. Someone threw a live chicken into the arena.

3:00 – WTDS: On this day in 1980, Mt. St Helens erupted. Happy Birthday to Reggie Jackson, Jere Curry, Marty McSorly, Yannick Noah, Brooks Robinson, Doin Da Bubble Butt 6, Jim Sunberg, Tina Fey, George Strait. Spares include Ray Donaldson, Darren Dreifort, Marcus Giles, Craig Hentrich, Donyell Marshall, Ron Mercer and Eric Young.

Listen to BaD Radio everyday from 12 – 3pm on Sports Radio 1310 The Ticket. I do, and I has opulence.
